THE CHAIR IS TOUCHING THE WALL
2018
An exploration into the abstract perception of my spatial reaction. Obscuring the boundaries of shape and form to question an initial recognition of the subject, the human body appears contoured around the metal form, composing new ideas of movement and malleability to a space.
"The Chair Is Touching the Wall" is an idea retracted from Heidegger's theory of Dasein; the literal translation of 'being there'. Understanding my own relation to space, being neither here nor there in the images themselves, my progression throughout this project reflects a similar sense of unencounterable space. Where the chair and the wall occupy a particular space, they do not share the same space and it is impossible for them to do so.
